Overview

Since his election in 2013, Pope Francis has captured the world’s attention in ways unanticipated by many Catholics and other Christians. But who is Pope Francis, and where is he really taking the papacy and the Catholic Church? Why was he elected as the 266th successor of St. Peter? What surprises are likely to lie in store for us? Few are more qualified to discuss this topic than papal biographer, scholar and author, George Weigel. Author of numerous books, most notably the authoritative "Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II", Weigel is one of the most well-respected and knowledgeable commentators on the Catholic Church and the papacy today.

Dr. George Weigel is an American author and political and social activist. He currently serves as a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center. Weigel was the Founding President of the James Madison Foundation. He is the author of "Tranquillitas Ordinis: The Present Failure and Future Promise of American Catholic Thought on War and Peace" and "The Cube And The Cathedral."
