Acton is excited to invite you to join us for a special 10th anniversary screening in Detroit of the award-winning documentary Poverty, Inc. This groundbreaking film reveals how initiatives that claim to relieve poverty can unintentionally harm the communities they aim to help, challenging us to rethink how we fight poverty.

More than half of the children in Detroit are living in poverty, according to a new study. As we approach the holiday season and billions pour into seasonal donation campaigns — toys, coats, and canned food drives —we must ask: Despite these good intentions, how effective are these donations at solving the underlying poverty problem?

Poverty, Inc. highlights the power of locally driven, sustainable solutions that create real, lasting change—and inspires all of us to imagine a new, more effective way to make a difference.

This movie changed the way we look at poverty and charitable giving. Watch the movie trailer here.

Tickets are $20. All proceeds from ticket sales will directly support 1 Girl Revolution.

This event is hosted by 1 Girl Revolution, Acton Institute’s Center for Social Flourishing, the Michigan Urban Youth Alliance, MovieGoer, America’s Future, and the Atlas Network.
