ABOUT

The International Research Grant from Acton Institute provides financial assistance to promising international scholars and international institutions such as think tanks working at the intersection of religion and free markets.  Applicants must demonstrate the potential to advance the principles of a free and virtuous society, characterized by individual liberty and sustained by religious principles.  Funded research projects must be dedicated to the moral promotion of liberty and the necessity of religious principles and result in publication by reputable academic journals or widely read media outlets.  The International Research Grant is supported by the Templeton Religion Trust.

DEADLINES

Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded, funding permitting, on a rolling basis.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Grants are open to international scholars and international institutions such as think tanks working at the intersection of religion and free markets.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated interest in the themes of the Acton Institute.
  • Candidates must demonstrate how they will advance the themes of the Acton Institute.
  • Grants are open to all qualified persons irrespective of race, sex, national or ethnic origin, age, citizenship, religious affiliation, or disability.

DETAILS

Selection Process
Applications are reviewed and recipients selected by the research staff of the Acton Institute. Award decisions by the Acton Institute are final and not subject to appeal.

Agreement
Recipients must respond to an award notification within two weeks and adhere to the grant conditions listed below.

Grant Amounts
International Research Grants are typically between USD $3000-$10000.  For smaller requests, especially by individual scholars, see the Calihan Academic Grant or (if you are from the USA or Canada) the Free Market Mini-Grant.

Duration
International Research Grants are not renewable, but all applicants are eligible to re-apply provided their reapplication occurs no earlier than one calendar year from their prior application.

 

REQUIREMENTS

To apply, please send a 1-page proposal that outlines the goals of your research, how you intend to use this grant to accomplish these goals, and the publications, media, etc., that will result from the work funded by the grant, to  grants-awards@acton.org.
