Presenter Biography

John C. Kennedy has been the president and CEO of Autocam Corporation since 1988 when he purchased the company. At that time, revenues were $8 million and the company showed a historic operating loss. Today, Autocam Corporation boasts more than $200 million in revenues from operations around the globe. Through this expansion, the company has driven employment in key manufacturing jobs throughout the Midwest.

Kennedy has applied his entrepreneurial abilities to the field of healthcare by designing Autocam’s high-quality, affordable healthcare plan.  The plan’s emphasis on incentives for healthy living has equipped Autocam employees with the resources to live healthier and happier lives while minimizing their financial exposure.  For example, the plan covers 100 percent of preventive care for employees and their families and is designed so that employees are charged no premium.  Autocam also contributes $1,500 in matching funds towards each employee’s deductible ($4,000 for a family plan and $2,000 for a single plan).

Kennedy is also active in a number of educational organizations and institutes. He currently serves as a trustee of Grand Valley State University and an advisory board member of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business’ Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. John also is a member of the boards of Lacks Enterprises and the Van Andel Institute and a founding board member of Grand Rapids University Prep. Academy.

Kennedy received his BA from the University of Detroit Mercy and his MBA from the University of Michigan.  He has been named to the 2002 Junior Achievement West Michigan Business Hall of Fame, he’s received the 2002 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and he has been named the 2004 Business Person of the Year by the Economic Club of Grand Rapids.  He most recently received the 2006 Grand Valley University Foundation Enrichment Award and is past recipient of the Leadership Award of the Grand Valley University Foundation, Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, and Michigan Jaycees Five Outstanding Young People of Michigan Award.
