Jonathan Jacobs is an Affiliate Scholar of the Collins Center for Abrahamic Heritage, Research Professor of Philosophy at George Washington University, and Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. He works in ethics, politics, and criminal justice, topics in moral psychology, and also medieval philosophy. He is the author of The Liberal State and Criminal Sanction: Seeking Justice and Civility (Oxford, 2020), Law, Reason, and Morality in Medieval Jewish Philosophy, (Oxford, 2010), also Criminology and Moral Philosophy: Empirical Methods and the Study of Values (Routledge, 2023), and eight other books, and editor of five. He received his PhD from University of Pennsylvania in 1983. He has been a Visiting Professor or Visiting Scholar at the University of Edinburgh, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of St. Andrews, and Oxford University. He was the T. J. Lynch Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Wake Forest University and he is a Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge.
