[5]With the patronage of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care [6], Istituto Acton gathered distinguished leaders in the medical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological, and IT sectors as well as health and public policy experts for an international conference on health and technology in Rome. The panel of experts debated the practical and moral concerns for providing better health services, pharmaceutical products, sustainable agriculture, and technological services. The audience asked many challenging questions on issues such as the roles and responsibilities of scientists, investment in research and development, and the wide spectrum of influence that missionary orders, industry advocacy groups, and NGOs have with their own private initiatives in healthcare services and agricultural development.
