ANDREW V. ABELA, Ph.D., the 2009 Novak Award winner, will present his new academic paper and receive the $10,000 prize at the 9th Annual Calihan Lecture. Andrew Abela is an Associate Professor of Marketing and Chair of the Department of Business and Economics at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

Believing that anti-free market perspectives seem to dominate discussion about the social impact of business, Abela is working to explore Christian ethics further to show how these issues can be resolved more humanely and effectively through market-oriented approaches.

The Novak Award is made possible by the generosity of Joseph L. Calihan and family and is named in honor of the religious philosopher Michael Novak. It is given annually by the Acton Institute to a scholar who has conducted promising new research into the interrelation of religion and economic liberty.
